Applying MSTDM to Packet Voice and Data in Cellular Radio Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
MSTDM is a variant of the Ethernet protocol that provides quality of service guarantees for voice. This protocol has been applied to LAN’s and CATV networks. Cellular networks are different: 1) Each cell has a base station: When mobile units communicate through the base station, frequency reuse increases and collisions are detected. 2) The objective is to connect mobile units to the communication infrastructure: Communications between units is only used to share the channel. 3) The base station broadcasts packets from the communications infrastructure to the mobile units: This channel can also provide timing and control. Rapid contention resolution techniques make it unnecessary to transmit voice during silent intervals. Taking advantage of the cellular characteristics and TASI increases the number of voice connections by a

Adaptive QoS control by toggling voice traffic between circuit and packet cellular networks
As cellular packet data services become widely deployed by the rollout of the networks such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and 3G cellular networks, packet-switched voice service such as voice over IP (VoIP) can soon be expected to be offered as an alternative to circuit-switched voice service. While circuit-switched voice offers better quality, packet-switched voice offers better resou...
متن کاملUsing Context-based Statistical Models to Promote the Quality of Voice Conversion Systems
This article aims to examine methods of optimizing GMM-based voice conversion systems performance in which GMM method is introduced as the basic method for improvement of voice conversion systems performance. In the current methods, due to using a single conversion function to convert all speech units and subsequent spectral smoothing arising from statistical averaging, we will observe quality ...
متن کاملTrading CDPD Availability and Voice Blocking Probability in Cellular Networks
48 ellular digital packet data (CDPD) [1–3] networks provide wireless data communications services to mobile users by sharing the radio equipment and unused RF channels with Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) networks [6]. Basically, CDPD transmits packet data over idle AMPS channels, and autonomously switches to another channel when the current channel is about to be assigned for voice usage....
متن کاملC-PRMA: a Centralized Packet Reservation Multiple Access for Local Wireless Communications
Packet switched technology has been demonstrated effective in cellular radio systems with short propagation delay, not only for data but also for voice transmission. In fact, packet voice can efficiently exploit speech on-off activity to improve bandwidth utilization over TDMA. Such an approach has been first suggested in the Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) technique, an adaptation of...
متن کاملRoute Selection for Data Packets in a Tactical Packet Radio Network Using Integrated Voice and Data Transmissions
Integration of data networking into traditional voice only systems, such as SINCGARS and HAVEQUICK, is necessary to meet evolving multimedia communication requirements. The success of this integration is dependent on the development of improved channel-access and network protocols that allow simultaneous voice and data information transfer. In previous work we investigated a system design that ...
